WRIGHT, N.Y. (January 27, 2013)—Sixty-seven dead cats and 99 living cats were removed from a filthy home in upstate New York, authorities said.
The cats were removed from the home in Wright, N.Y., near Albany, on Wednesday night.
The dead cats were found packed in plastic bags in the freezer and the live cats were kept in crates stacked floor to ceiling.
Sheriff's deputies went to the home after a neighbor called to complain about the overpowering odor of cat urine and feces.
Charges are being considered against the cats' owner.
The manager of the animal shelter that took in the cats said she had tried to help the woman, but said the woman had "a hoarder mentality."
