MEMPHIS, Tenn. (July 4, 2012)—Police in Memphis, Tenn., say the body of a child found in a large trash bin was that of a 3-year-old boy who was missing for two days.
Police Director Toney Armstrong said authorities identified the body of Maurice Brown, Jr., who was reported missing by his father on Sunday night.
The body was found more than a mile from where the boy had been staying with his father, Maurice Brown, Sr.
The father told police he fell asleep for about 1 1/2 hours Sunday night, then awakened to find a door open and his son missing.
Police launched an extensive search.
But a police affidavit says a witness reported seeing the man leave his apartment with a child's body draped over his shoulder.
Maurice Brown, Sr. was in custody after being charged Monday with child neglect or endangerment.
