KABUL, Afghanistan (December 17, 2012)--A bomb has killed 10 young girls in eastern Afghanistan, an official said.
Mohammad Seddiq said the girls ranging from about 9 to 13 years old were gathering firewood outside of Dawlatzai village in Nangarhar province's Chaperhar district when the bomb went off.
Seddiq is the government administrator for the district and talked to The Associated Press from the site of the blast.
He said it is not clear what caused the bomb to go off.
He said two other girls were seriously wounded and is in critical condition at a hospital.
