MOBILE, Ala. (October 7, 2012)--Friends of a University of South Alabama student question his fatal shooting by a campus police officer.
Colgan Meanor says Gil Collar, 18, of Wetumpka, Ala., was an outgoing athlete who loved wrestling in high school.
She said she's shocked that an officer killed him outside the university police department early Saturday.
Another friend of Collar’s, Tyler Kendrick, said the officer shouldn't have drawn his weapon on an unarmed person.
School officials said Collar ignored repeated commands to stop.
The school says Collar was nude and acting erratically when he confronted the officer.
The officer was placed on paid leave, and an autopsy will determine if drugs or alcohol were involved.
Campus officials say security cameras recorded the confrontation.
