College Student Charged In Classroom Stabbing

WINTER PARK, Fla. (February 21, 2013)—A Full Sail University student accused of stabbing a classmate with a screwdriver while uttering racial slurs during a statistics class has been charged, authorities said.

Orange County Sheriff's spokesman Jeff Williamson says Xavier Nunez, 29, is accused of uttering slurs and then stabbing a black classmate several times in the neck and shoulder during class Thursday at the Florida school.

The victim was treated at the scene and released.

His name wasn’t released.

Williamson says the stabbing is being classified as a hate crime.

Nunez is charged with aggravated battery with a deadly weapon.

Full Sail University is a for-profit arts school in Winter Park, Fla., about 10 miles northeast of Orlando.
