MENIFEE, Calif. (July 10, 2013)--Authorities in were searching Wednesday for possible human remains at the home of an 11-year-old autistic boy who vanished over the weekend in Menifee, Calif.
Menifee Mayor Scott Mann said investigators are treating the home of Terry Dewayne Smith, Jr. as a crime scene.
Riverside County sheriff's Deputy Albert Martinez said detectives were led to the home shortly after 1 a.m. Wednesday based on evidence indicating there might be a body there, but authorities released no details.
Volunteers, meanwhile, continued to search the surrounding semi-rural area for the boy, who was last seen at the home on Saturday.
Authorities were concerned that he wandered away without food, water or his medication.
Searchers have scoured a 55-square mile area where temperatures have topped 100 degrees every day since Terry disappeared.
About 1,000 people looked for him on Tuesday.
