CARLISLE, Pa. (November 28, 2012)--A small explosion and fire Wednesday in a Pennsylvania eighth-grade science classroom injured five students.
Cumberland County spokeswoman Meg Silverstrim said two of the children were taken by helicopter from Wilson Middle School in Carlisle, Pa., to Johns Hopkins Hospital in Baltimore.
She said the others were driven to Carlisle Regional Medical Center.
Silverstrim says the cause of the explosion and fire is under investigation.
Crews were able to extinguish the fire quickly, and the school continued with its regular day.
She had no information about the children's medical conditions.
School district officials have not returned messages seeking information about the accident.
