ST. LOUIS PARK, Minn. (November 21, 2013) Five children were taken to a Minneapolis-area hospital Thursday after they were rescued from a car that veered off a rain-slicked highway ramp and plunged into a holding pond.
City spokeswoman Jamie Zwilling said the children were unresponsive when they were pulled from the car.
Two of the children are 5 and the others are 1, 6 and 7.
They were trapped underwater for 25 to 45 minutes until rescuers reached them.
The conditions of the children weren’t immediately released.
The crash happened Thursday during the early-morning rush hour in St. Louis Park, a western Minneapolis suburb.
The 23-year-old woman driving the car was in stable condition.
She managed to get out on her own.
The accident happened shortly after 6 a.m. when roads were wet, but not icy.
