THOMSON, Ga. (February 21, 2013)--A small jet overran a runway during a landing and crashed into a wooded area in eastern Georgia, the National Transportation Safety Board said in a statement.

Authorities say five people died in the crash shortly after 8 p.m. Wednesday.

Two others were taken to a hospital in nearby Augusta.

The NTSB also said it launched a "go-team" of investigators who were en route Thursday morning from Washington, D.C. to the crash site at the Thomson McDuffie-Regional Airport west of Augusta.

The Hawker Beechcraft 390/Premier I departed from Nashville, Tenn., before it crashed at the airport about in Georgia.

Thomson-McDuffie County Sheriff Logan Marshall said the identities of those killed were being withheld pending notification of family members.
