PHILADELPHIA (January 15, 2013)--The Philadelphia School District is conducting an internal review after a 5-year-old girl was taken from a classroom.
The girl was found safe Tuesday just outside the city, police said.
Upper Darby police Superintendent Michael Chitwood said a man who was walking down a street at around 4:40 a.m. Tuesday heard cries for help and found the girl, Nailla Robinson, hiding under a jungle gym in a park, wearing only a T-shirt.
Police were searching for her abductor Tuesday.
A school district spokesman says a woman claiming to be the girl's mother went to the school and signed in at the front door Monday, but the spokesman, Fernando Gallard, says the woman then went straight to the classroom to get the girl and did not stop at the front office.
He says the teacher let the child go.
