WEST VALLEY CITY, Utah (April 29, 2013)—A man whom officers shot Monday morning in the lobby of a police department in a Salt Lake City suburb told police months ago that he wanted officers to shot him.
West Valley City, Utah, police Sgt. Jason Hauer says James Ramsey Kammeyer, 39, entered the lobby at around 8:30 a.m. Monday and asked an officer to come out from behind a partition.
When several officers came to help, Kammeyer pulled out a gun and at least one of the officers shot him repeatedly.
His wounds are not life-threatening, authorities said.
Hauer says police Kammeyer told officers in December he wanted to die by being shot by police because he was a registered sex offender and his wife was taking his kids.
He pleaded guilty in 1999 to felony child sex abuse.
