BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (December 15, 2012)—A man opened fire Saturday in a hospital in Birmingham, Ala., wounding an officer and two employees before police shot him to death, authorities said.
Birmingham Police Sgt. Johnny Williams said the officer and employees suffered injuries that are not considered life threatening.
Williams said officers were sent in response to reports Saturday morning that a man with a gun was walking through St. Vincent's Hospital.
When officers confronted him, he started shooting and wounded one of the officers.
The second officer then shot and killed the man.
Detectives are still working to determine why the armed man was in the hospital.
