OKLAHOMA CITY (September 26, 2012)—At least seven people died Wednesday in a head-on crash near Elmwood, Okla., in the Oklahoma Panhandle, the Oklahoma Highway Patrol said.
Highway Patrol Capt. Chris West said a Chevrolet Suburban traveled left of the center line along Highway 412 early Wednesday and slammed head-on into a van.
West says early reports indicate both drivers were killed, along with five others.
He said the accident still is being investigated, but said the Suburban was traveling at a high rate of speed.
Elmwood is in Beaver County in the Oklahoma Panhandle, less than 10 miles from the Texas state line.
