DETROIT (September 10, 2013)—Inmate Abraham Pearson was back in custody Tuesday and facing new charges after authorities say he stabbed a sheriff's deputy with a shank fashioned from a plastic comb during a daring escape Monday from a Detroit courthouse.
Pearson was taken into custody Monday night after a daylong manhunt.
Authorities say Pearson, 25, also stole the deputy's clothes and carjacked a minivan from a woman near the courthouse.
He was at the courthouse awaiting sentencing for carjacking and armed robbery.
Pearson now faces 11 additional charges related to his violent escape, Sheriff Benny Napoleon said.
Napoleon said Pearson is now "looking at a considerable amount of time" behind bars if he's convicted on the new charges.
Wayne County sheriff's spokesman Dennis Niemiec said Tuesday that Pearson also goes by the alias Derreck White.
