Large Earthquake Strikes Off The Coast Of Mexico

MEXICO CITY (December 14, 2012)--A large earthquake struck Friday in the Pacific Ocean off the coast of Mexico but there are no immediate reports of damage or injuries, the U.S. Geological Survey said.

The quake, with a preliminary magnitude of 6.4, was recorded at 2:36 a.m. Friday, 163 miles south-southwest of the California city of Avalon and 167 miles west-southwest of Rosarito, Mexico at a relatively shallow depth of 6.3 miles.

No tsunami warning was issued.

The U.S. Geological Survey said several people in Southern California communities reported feeling slight shaking, but authorities in Los Angeles and San Diego counties said the quake wasn't widely felt and nobody reported any damage or injuries.
