ORLANDO, Fla. (May 22, 2013)--The FBI Wednesday was leaving unanswered the question of who fired the shot that killed a man whom authorities were questioning in the Boston bombing probe.
The bureau initially said that an FBI agent fired the fatal shot when the man, Ibragim Todashev, initiated a violent confrontation.
Subsequently, the FBI issued an updated statement that did not specify who shot Todashev.
The updated statement said that other law enforcement personnel participating in the interview included two Massachusetts State Police troopers.
Todashev, 27, was a mixed martial arts fighter who had recently faced a charge of aggravated battery after a fight over a parking spot earlier this month.
Police blocked off a complex of townhomes near Universal Studios where the shooting took place.
In the earlier statement, the bureau said the man became violent, and that the FBI agent responded to an imminent threat by shooting and killing him.
The agent was taken to a hospital with injuries described as non-life-threatening, the statement said.
