LEBANON, Maine (April 30, 2013)--A New Hampshire man credited with saving the life of a 12-year-old Maine girl who was being mauled by her family's pit bulls says the two dogs were trying to "tear the girl apart."
Adam Horr, of Dover, N.H., was visiting friends in Lebanon on Saturday when he heard screams.
He knew immediately it was "something bad," so he sprinted 75 yards through woods that separate the properties.
Horr, 41, said he didn't have time to be scared.
He started punching and kicking the dogs, who turned on him.
Police say the dogs jumped a fence while Angel Sargent played with her sister and a friend.
She was treated for bites on her neck, legs and shoulder.
Her mother said she is doing well.
