JOHANNESBURG (July 25, 2013)--South African police say a real-life attempt to kill Radovan Krejcir, a Czech man who was accused of planning a murder and other crimes in his country, was carried out with a James Bond-style gadget with remote-controlled gun barrels rigged behind the license plate of a car that sprayed bullets.
Krejcir, who has been linked to underworld figures in Johannesburg, escaped injury in the attack Wednesday, in which his bullet-proof Mercedes was peppered by gunfire.
The empty, parked vehicle where the weapon was hidden then burst into flames, possibly destroying evidence.
Krejcir eluded a police raid on his Czech villa in 2005 and later turned up in South Africa, where he is fighting extradition.
