Members Charged After Student Found Dead At Fraternity House

DEKALB, Ill. (December 18, 2012)--Nearly two-dozen fraternity members at Northern Illinois University in DeKalb, Ill, are facing hazing-related charges after a student was found dead at their fraternity house following a night of drinking.

Arrest warrants were issued Monday for 22 members of the Pi Kappa Alpha fraternity in DeKalb.

Five members are charged with felony hazing and the others are facing misdemeanors.

The fraternity didn't return emails and phone messages seeking comment.

The warrants were filed after freshman David Bogenberger, 19, was found unresponsive at the fraternity house in November.

The local coroner ruled the cause of death as cardiac arrhythmia, with alcohol intoxication as a contributing cause.

The coroner said Bogenberger's blood-alcohol level was about five times the legal limit for driving.

NIU said the fraternity has been temporarily removed as a recognized student organization.
