YORK, Pa. (November 22, 2012)--More than 40 female inmates at York County Prison in York, Pa., were being treated for carbon monoxide poisoning Thursday.
Warden Mary Sabol said 40 to 45 inmates in the female dormitory became sick Wednesday night.
She said officials are investigating the cause.
Ninety women are held at the facility.
"We had some people who had some carbon monoxide poisoning. ...It appears that everyone is going to be OK,” she said.
She said the gas levels in the dorm were dissipating.
Emergency management officials in Dover Borough said the inmates were taken to York and Memorial hospitals.
Sabol said she's out of town but that deputy warden Clair Doll and the prison's facilities manager were handling the situation.
