BOSTON (June 20, 2014) At 102, Laura Lundquist is the oldest murder defendant in Massachusetts history.
She’s charged with second-degree murder in the death of her 100-year-old roommate nearly five years ago in a Massachusetts nursing home.
Lundquist was 98 when she was charged in 2009 after Elizabeth Barrow was found strangled with a plastic bag tied around her head at the Brandon Woods nursing home in Dartmouth, Mass.
Lundquist had a longstanding diagnosis of dementia and was ruled incompetent to stand trial.
Since her indictment, she has been held at a state psychiatric hospital, while the murder charge against her remains active.
The Massachusetts Appeals Court is expected to rule soon on an appeal from Barrow's son in his wrongful-death lawsuit against the nursing home.
An arbitrator dismissed the suit.
