KABUL, Afghanistan (July 8, 2012)--Two members of the U.S.-led coalition are among 23 people killed by roadside bombs and insurgent attacks in southern Afghanistan, Afghan and NATO officials said Sunday.
The victims also included 16 Afghan civilians and five policemen.
The civilians were killed in a trio of blasts Sunday along Afghanistan's border with Pakistan.
At least 10 other civilians were injured.
The police officers died while responding to a gun battle being waged against insurgents at a checkpoint in Helmand province.
Separately, two NATO service members were killed in southern Afghanistan, one in a roadside bomb explosion Saturday and the other in an insurgent attack Sunday.
