NEW YORK (AP) - New York City Police Commissioner Raymond Kelly says the NYPD is providing coverage at theaters running the new Batman movie.
Kelly said the measure was taken in the wake of the mass shooting in Colorado at a theater where "The Dark Knight Rises" was showing.
The violence erupted at the midnight opening of the movie in a Denver suburb.
The suspected gunman, James Holmes, 24, was in custody Friday.
Kelly said the NYPD was providing the extra security "as a precaution against copycats and to raise the comfort levels among movie patrons."
