Nearly Two-Dozen Killed In Attack On Pakistani Army Camp

PESHAWAR, Pakistan (February 2, 2013)—At least 23 people were killed Saturday in an attack by militants on an army post in northwest Pakistan, officials said.

A dozen attackers were also killed during the attack, which included automatic weapons, rocket-propelled grenades and suicide vests, authorities said.

Ten of the dead were civilians, including three women and three children.

The raid followed a suicide bombing at a Shiite Muslim mosque elsewhere in the northwest Friday that killed 24 people.

The number of sectarian attacks in Pakistan is on the rise.

The Pakistani Taliban claimed responsibility for both attacks.

The group has been waging a bloody insurgency against the government for years and also has sometimes targeted country's minority Shiite sect.
