SALT LAKE CITY (March 23, 2013)—Elam Jones 28, was identified as the miner who died Friday in a cave-in at a Utah coal mine.
Jones died after he and another miner became trapped earlier in the day at a mine in Bear Canyon, about 10 miles west of Huntington.
Jones' mother is a city councilwoman of Huntington, a small mining town in central Utah.
His identity was confirmed by Huntington Mayor Hilary Gordon.
The other trapped miner was rescued and has since been released from a hospital.
Federal officials say preliminary information shows a roof-fall at the mine, which is part of the Castle Valley Mining Complex.
