MIDLAND CITY, Ala. (February 2, 2013)---Negotiators in Alabama were still trying to persuade Jimmy Lee Dykes to surrender Saturday four days after the 65-year-old man shot a school bus driver to death and grabbed a 5-year-old boy off the bus.

Dykes has been holed up ever since in a home-made bunker in a rural area near Midland City, Ala.

Police have been treading carefully in dealing with the man and saying little about the standoff, except that they are using a ventilation pipe to talk with the man who is holding the boy.

A local official says the boy has been crying for his parents.

A neighbor says he believes Dykes is looking for a platform to "rant and rave about politics and government."
