MURRAY, Utah (May 5, 2013)--A Utah soccer referee who was in a coma after a teenage player punched him has died.
Ricardo Portillo, 46, of Salt Lake City died late Saturday night,
Unified police spokesman Justin Hoyal said.
Hoyal said Portillo passed away at the hospital, where he was being treated after the assault during a soccer game last weekend.
Police say a 17-year-old player in a recreational soccer league punched Portillo who had called a foul and issued the teen a yellow card.
The teenager was booked into juvenile detention on suspicion of aggravated assault after the attack.
Hoyal says authorities will now consider additional charges because Portillo has died.
