OLYMPIA, Wash. (December 9, 2012)--Same-sex couples started taking their vows just after midnight Sunday under Washington State’s new law allowing gay marriage.

The law took effect Thursday, but the state has a three-day waiting period for couples after they acquire a marriage license.

Last month, Washington, Maine and Maryland became the first states to pass same-sex marriage by popular vote.
