CHESTERFIELD, S.C. (February 13, 2013)--A man involved in paternity dispute opened fire Wednesday in front of a South Carolina courthouse, wounding a woman and her stepfather, then led police on a 12-mile chase.
Chesterfield County Sheriff Sam Parker identified the man as Curtis Gorny.
He said Gorny and Olivia Weaver, 21, were at the courthouse Wednesday for a paternity test.
The child was not with them.
Parker said Weaver was shot in the face and body.
She was taken to a hospital.
Her stepfather, Johnnie Nolan, was also wounded.
Information about the conditions of the victims wasn’t immediately available.
Parker said Gorny fled from officers, firing from his vehicle before he was forced into a ditch.
The shooting came just two days after a Texas man who authorities say was involved in a bitter custody battle shot his daughter-in-law and another woman to death at a Delaware courthouse.
