McCRORY, Ark. (July 3, 2013)—One person was in critical condition Wednesday after a car slammed into a group of bicyclists who were pedaling through Arkansas on a cross-country trip, the Massachusetts-based summer camp that sponsored the ride said.
A car that was northbound on Arkansas Highway 17 crashed into the northbound group of 13 bicyclists Tuesday afternoon near McCrory, Ark., about 90 miles northeast of Little Rock.
The cyclists included 11 high school students and two adult guides, said Jonathan Igoe, director of Williamstown, Mass.-based Overland, which provides summer camp programs for kids ages 10 to 19.
Six students and one guide were taken to hospitals after the crash, he said.
Two were treated and later released, but five remained hospitalized Wednesday, including one who’s in critical condition.
