FORT KNOX, Ky. (April 4, 2013)--A Fort Knox soldier wanted for questioning in the shooting death of a civilian employee was in custody Thursday in Tennessee.
A statement from the Army's criminal investigations division said the soldier is a member of Fort Knox's 3rd Brigade Combat Team, 1st Infantry Division, but didn’t identify him.
But FBI spokeswoman Mary Trotman said Thursday night that Marquinta E. Jacobs, who is named in a court filing, is the man whom Army investigators said was apprehended Thursday in Portland, Tenn.
The FBI said in the court filing that Jacobs fired a .45-caliber handgun at the victim, "striking him several times."
The victim was an employee of the U.S. Army Human Resources Command, and the shooting occurred in a parking lot outside that building.
The shooting Wednesday prompted officials at Fort Knox to briefly lock down the post's gates.
