MIAMI (November 20, 2012)--A 13-year-old girl died Tuesday after another student shot her on a school bus, Miami Dade police said.
The girl was flown to a hospital where she was pronounced dead.
The male student was in custody and police spokesman Alvaro Zabaleta said investigators are talking to him.
A gun was recovered at the scene.
It's not clear what prompted Tuesday morning's shooting in Homestead, Fla., south of Miami.
There were eight other students on the charter school bus, including the victim's 7-year-old sister.
None of the other children was injured.
The bus driver and the students were taken to the police station to be interviewed.
Parents gathered at the scene, which was cordoned off by crime scene tape.
Grief counselors were on their way to the charter school.
