CONCORD, N.H. (April 20, 2013)--A campaign developed by health professionals and gun dealers in New Hampshire to raise awareness about prevention of firearm suicides is drawing national attention.
Their efforts yielded a set of materials tailored to gun stores and firing ranges to educate industry workers and their customers about suicide prevention.
The project has gained attention nationally.
Groups in 15 other states are interested in or already distributing its posters and brochures.
The next step for the campaign, known as The Gun Shop Project, is to get a major gun manufacturer to sponsor its message and help make suicide prevention a standard part of firearm safety training.
Firearms are the leading method of suicide in the U.S., accounting for more deaths than all other means of suicide combined.
