MIAMI (November 21, 2012)--A South Florida teenager charged in the death of a girl who was shot while riding a school bus will remain in a juvenile detention center.
The 15-year-old waived his right to appear in court Wednesday morning.
An arrest report says the boy took a gun from his backpack Tuesday, brandished it on the bus and then fired once, hitting 13-year-old Lourdes Guzman, who died at the hospital.
The boy is charged with manslaughter and carrying a concealed firearm.
A Police spokeswoman said, "It appears to have been an accident."
The victim's mother said in a statement that Jina, as she was known to her friends and family, was a "fun, loving, helpful, a happy girl."
