Three Killed When SUV Chased By Police Hits Their Vehicle

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (October 2, 2012)—Three people were killed including an infant when an SUV whose driver was fleeing after a robbery slammed into their vehicle in Birmingham, Ala., police said.

Birmingham police Sgt. Matthew Nicosia said a man, a woman and the child were killed in the collision Monday night.

Police told AL.com officers began chasing the suspects' white SUV after a robbery in Walker County.

The chase wound through that county and entered the west side Birmingham.

Birmingham police Sgt. John Callahan says the suspects' SUV ran a red light and then crashed into the vehicle in which the three victims were riding.

All three died at the scene.

Authorities say the suspects fled on foot into a nearby wooded area, and a helicopter was dispatched to search for them.
