BRIDGEWATER, N.J. (July 20, 2014) A tour bus caught fire on a busy stretch of New Jersey highway, but no passengers were injured, authorities said.
The fire was reported at around 8:40 p.m. Saturday in Bridgewater, N.J., State Police Sgt. Brian Polite said.
The passengers climbed off the bus and ran along the southbound lanes of Interstate 287 to escape the flames.
Authorities still aren't sure from where the bus departed from or to where it was headed.
The passengers were transferred to another bus to continue their trip.
The cause of the fire was under investigation Sunday.
Police shut down all but one lane of traffic as the fire was extinguished and the remains of the bus were removed from the road.
All lanes reopened later Saturday.
