U.S. Soldiers Killed In Afghanistan Identified; 2 Were Based In Texas

EL PASO (May 17, 2013)--Two soldiers based at Fort Bliss and one based at Fort Stewart, Ga., were killed Tuesday in Afghanistan in a a homemade bomb attack, the military said Friday.

Fort Bliss soldiers Spc. William Joseph Gilbert, 24, of Hacienda Heights, Calif., and Spc. Mitchell Kirk Daehling, 24, of Dalton, Mass., and Sgt. 1st Class Jeffrey C. Baker, 29, of Hesperia, Calif., who was based at Fort Stewart, were killed in the attack on Tuesday, Fort Bliss officials said Friday.

A post spokesman says a third Fort Bliss soldier was also killed in the blast, but his identity was not immediately released.

Five other Fort Bliss soldiers were killed by a roadside blast in early May in Afghanistan.
