ROME (November 1, 2012)--A U.S. student at an American university in Rome was stabbed repeatedly by another student as he slept after a night of Halloween partying at a club and was hospitalized in serious condition.

Police say the alleged assailant, an American-born Italian citizen, was arrested early Thursday in a Rome apartment and will likely face a court appearance on Friday.

The motive wasn't clear.
