KIEV, Ukraine (February 24, 2014) The acting government of Ukraine issued an arrest warrant Monday for President Viktor Yanukovych, in the aftermath of the deaths of more than 80 people last week in clashes between protesters and police.
An official in Ukraine, however, says Yanukovych has "disappeared."
After signing an agreement Friday to form a unity government, Yanukovych fled the capital for eastern Ukraine, where he has a strong base of support.
Officials say he released his official security detail, and drove off to an unknown location.
Ukraine is deeply divided between largely pro-Russian eastern regions and western areas that long for closer ties with the European Union.
