1930s Time Capsule Found In Central Texas Town

(August 14, 2014) Officials in Taylor are determining the best way to open a time capsule buried in the early 20th century so they don't damage the contents, which are believed to include autographs from President Franklin Roosevelt and humorist Will Rogers.

The time capsule is welded shut, is about the size of a shoe box and weighs about 10 pounds.

Officials believe the capsule also holds local photos and maps of city buildings.

Demolition workers found the capsule in a cornerstone of city hall after officials learned about the box from a 1935 newspaper article.

Taylor's city hall opened that year.
