ROUND ROCK (November 1, 2013) Round Rock-based Dell has traced a cat-urine smell emanating from its Latitude 6430u laptops to a manufacturing glitch.
Owners had complained of the odor coming from the keyboard or palm rest.
One customer wrote to Dell and said he kept scolding his cat because he thought it was using the keyboard as a litter box.
Dell first advised owners to clean the keyboards with a soft cloth or compressed air, but the odor persisted.
Now Dell says it has traced the smell to a manufacturing process, which the company has since fixed.
Owners have been advised to contact Dell’s tech support line to have the palm rest assemblies replaced.
