ANCHORAGE, Alaska (September 25, 2013)—A glitch in the Apple Maps app on newer iPhones and iPads sends travelers up to a runway at Fairbanks International Airport, instead of sending them on the proper route to the terminal, an airport spokeswoman said.
The map stops at the runway, but twice this month, drivers have continued across an active runway.
Fairbanks International Airport spokeswoman Angie Spear said people continue to drive because see the terminal just ahead.
There were no injuries in either the Sept. 6 incident or the second one last Friday, mainly because they both happened early in the morning, between flights.
The airport has since blocked the entrance, and has asked Apple to correct the app.
