AUSTIN (April 13, 2014) A swarm of about 25,000 bees has been removed from the Circuit of the Americas in Austin after taking up residence under a picnic table near the main grandstand.
Walter Schumacher of Central Texas Bee Rescue and Preserve was called in to remove the bees Saturday.
He said the bees, which live nearby, were attracted to the vendor stands that sell such items as frozen yogurt and cookies.
The track hosted motorcycle racing this weekend.
A woman working at a frozen yogurt stand said the swarm appeared in as a cloud at around 11 a.m. Saturday.
Fire officials didn't allow access to the area until the bees were clear, about two hours later.
