Beekeepers Come To The Rescue After Truck Crash Spills 200 Hives

MADRAS, Ore. (March 29, 2013)—Beekeepers spent nearly 12 hours Thursday collecting millions of bees that were buzzing alongside a highway in Oregon after a truck crash that spilled 200 hives.

Beekeeping apprentices from the Central Oregon Beekeepers Association wore protective gear as they carefully picked up each hive and checked it out.

The crash happened Sunday on Highway 97 north of Madras when the 18-wheeler transporting the bees swerved to avoid hitting an animal and rolled.

The rescued bees have been sent on to their original destination.
