Cat Emerges From Rubble Of Burned Animal Shelter

LEXINGTON, Ky. (December 6, 2013) Nearly a week after an animal shelter in Lexington, Ky., burned, crews found a cat alive in the rubble.

Freckles the cat was found Thursday after it was buried last week at the Knox-Whitley Animal Shelter.

The Lexington Humane Society says its staff veterinarian is treating the cat for burns and breathing problems.

Oak Grove volunteer fire department battalion chief Larry Centers said four dogs and 10 cats died in the fire.

Shelter volunteer Theresa Martin has said that officials aren't sure what caused the fire.
