NORTHAMPTON, Mass. (June 26, 2014) Smith College in Northampton, Mass., is selling an on-campus house for $1, but the buyer must also pay to have the house moved off the campus.
The price tag for that is expected to be about $70,000, not including the cost of a plot of land to move the house to or the cost of installing and connecting utilities.
The 2,332-square-foot house was built in 1860 was used as rental housing for faculty until the college decided to build new apartment-style student housing in its place.
The four-bedroom house is in pristine condition, the college says, with two full bathrooms, two fireplaces and historic woodworking.
The college hopes to have the house sold and moved by Sept. 1.
