NEW YORK (June 25, 2012)—Crooks in New York City have figured out that they can steal the left shoe from a display in one store and the matching right shoe from another store's display.
The owner of one Bronx athletic shoe says the thieves do their research.
They know before they steal a left shoe which store has a right shoe of the same size and style on display.
A store manager in SoHo says he loses about 50 display shoes a year to thieves.
Some store owners are tying shoes to display walls so no one will walk off with them.
