ATLANTIC CITY, N.J. (August 9, 2012)--Professional daredevil Nik Wallenda said the sand on the tightrope made his high-wire walk Thursday over an Atlantic City beach even more challenging.
Wallenda successfully walked 1,300 feet along the wire, which was about 100 feet above the ground.
He was unharnessed as a crowd estimated by local officials at 150,000 watched.
After he completed the walk, Wallenda said he originally planned to cross the wire barefoot.
But he said when he discovered that the sand made the wire slick, he decided to keep his suede and buckskin shoes on.
In June, Wallenda wowed another crowd when he did a similar stunt 200 feet above Niagara Falls.
