NEW YORK (August 14, 2012)--F-bomb has been added to Merriam-Webster's Collegiate Dictionary.
Many online dictionary and reference sites already list F-bomb, but the 114-year-old Merriam-Webster is only now putting into print.
Dictionary editors say they've traced the word back to 1988, in a Newsday story in which the now-deceased Mets catcher Gary Carter talked about how he had given up F-bombs, along with other profanities.
Other words added this year include sexting, energy drink and life coach.
