COUNCIL BLUFFS, Iowa (June 24, 2013)—When Dave Burgstrum listed a casket for sale on Craigslist, he mention there was a full skeleton inside.
Now police in Council Bluffs, Iowa, have stepped in and seized the bones.
Burgstrum said the coffin, which belonged to the now-defunct local chapter of the International Order of Odd Fellows, was made in the 1900s and was used in the group's rituals.
Burgstrum wanted $12,000 for the coffin, so he could pay the property taxes on the Odd Fellows hall.
The Council Bluffs Daily Nonpareil reported that the bones were over to the state medical examiner for possible identification.
Burgstrum said authorities can keep the skeleton, but he still wants to sell the coffin.
